Mysuru: Does the city of Mysuru require an exclusive
Mysuru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (MWSSB) on the lines of Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB)? Yes, feel MP Pratap Simha, MLAs G.T. Devegowda and L. Nagendra. Joining the chorus is Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman H.V. Rajeev.
All of them have written separately to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa urging him to propose the establishment of MWSSB and allocate funds for the same in the forthcoming Karnataka Budget. Their argument is after Bengaluru, Mysuru is growing rapidly and the city needs to respond to water and drainage needs to support its growth.

There are more than three million (30 lakh) registered Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) or Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in India. It is a well-known fact that most are just on paper. Of those functioning NGOs, it is not easy to find credible and honest ones dedicated to serve the society.
Despite these shortcomings of the NGO movement, many cities with ethical and efficient NGOs, the residents have benefited. NGOs provide a powerful platform to the people to express an opinion which Governments cannot ignore. In fact NGOs are a reliable source of information to feel the pulse and the mood of the people. In that sense, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has done well with its members actively participating and constantly interacting with various agencies of the Government in the development of the city.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has been struggling to regularise unauthorised water connections in city. At almost every MCC Council meeting, the issue of illegal water connection crops up where stringent action is sought against violators but nothing is done on the ground. As such, the illegality has thrived over the years, uninterrupted, burning a hole in MCC’s coffers.
However, such illegal connections are bound to be unearthed one day or the other like it happened while the MCC was undertaking digging work to widen the Irwin Road. During digging, the officials of Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) found a vast network of illegal water connections. The Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), an arm of KUWSDB, which handles drinking water distribution across Mysuru city on behalf of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), recently came across four pipelines illegally laid for water supply on Irwin Road, which is undergoing widening.
