With the rate of cases in the area decreasing since the end of November, Wadena County has seen 36 additional positive cases of COVID-19 between Dec. 18-22. This is certainly progress, but it is still a very high number of cases per population, said Jan Malcolm, Minnesota commissioner of health, in a news conference on Dec. 21.
Area counties have seen the following increases in positive COVID-19 cases from Dec. 4-18: Becker County had an additional 312 cases, Hubbard 118, Otter Tail 542, Todd 236 and Wadena 168. The counties have seen decreases from the number of additional positive cases from Nov. 27-Dec. 11: Becker County had an additional 502 cases, Hubbard 198, Otter Tail 876, Todd 338 and Wadena 240.
The cases remain at a high level but are decreasing.

Wadena County has seen 92 additional positive cases of COVID-19 between Dec. 8-16. Area counties have seen the following increases in positive COVID-19 cases from Nov. 27-Dec. 11: Becker County had an additional 502 cases, Hubbard 198, Otter Tail 876, Todd 338 and Wadena 240.
The counties have mostly seen decreases from the number of additional positive cases from Nov. 20-Dec. 4: Becker County had an additional 690 cases, Hubbard 346, Otter Tail 1,136, Todd 363 and Wadena 241.
While the number of cases at these high levels remains concerning, the cases could be cresting. We re still way above a manageable rate of growth in new cases, said Jan Malcolm, Minnesota commissioner of health, in a news conference on Dec. 15. We thank Minnesotans for shrinking these rates of growth, it is going to be so helpful for these vaccines to give us the greatest impact on getting to the other side of this

Without the super majority vote needed to pass the change to make the auditor-treasurer and recorder positions appointed instead of elected, commissioners passed the discussion and decision to the next commissioners who begin in January. The commissioners did not vote on the resolution since three commissioners indicated they would vote against adopting the resolution.
Commissioners reviewed a few of their positions from the public hearing on Dec. 7 as well as commissioners Chuck Horsager and Sheldon Monson noted numerous phone calls they received from constituents since the hearing. Commissioners-elect Michael Weyer and Murlyn Kreklau were the only members of the public to attend the public hearing.
