Captain Mahmood, who previously worked at Skypower Express Airways joined Arik Air in 2007 as a flight officer and held the positions of Chief Pilot/Deputy Fleet Manager, Airbus A330; MNPS Training Captain; and Fleet Manager, Canadian Regional Jet (CRJ) 900.
He was also at a time the Line Training Captain and Member, IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) for Arik Air Flight Operations.
He trained at Aviation Atlanta Peach Tree Airport, Atlanta Georgia for his Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL); Nigerian College Of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Nigeria where he obtained a Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Multi/IR.
Sanusi was appointed the MD in February 2017 after it was taken over by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
It was learnt that his tenure, according to the contract with the AMCON, actually elapsed six months ago but it was extended till the end of December, 2020.
The former MD, however, formally left the organization on December 29, 2020 after he helped to stabilize the organization and even revive the moribund Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) wing of the airline.
The resuscitation of Aero MRO helped the airline in bringing some of its aircraft back to service as Sanusi took over when the airline had just one serviceable aircraft.

Nigeria’s leading domestic airline, Aero Contractors has named Captain Abdullahi Zubair Mahmood as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Captain Mahmood, who was formerly Chief Pilot, Arik Air Limited, takes over from Captain Ado Sanusi who would later head a new airline, NG Eagle, which is in the process to secure its Air Operating Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Captain Mahmood’s appointment has also been received by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

Daily Trust reports that the sum of N27bn was initially approved for the industry by the Economic Sustainability Committee headed by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
The N27bn for the industry, according to the committee has a project elements which include: to extend grant support including payroll support to the aviation industry including airlines, handlers, caterers and related services; provision of single digit soft loans, with long term repayment plan; deferred payment of taxes and filing dates.
However, the Federal Government last week released a N5bn bailout for airlines, ground handling firms, car hire firms among others, which sources say forms the payroll support component of the intervention fund.

Sanusi confirmed this on the telephone to our correspondent on Wednesday.
According to Sanusi, his resignation took effect on December 31, 2020.
“There is a time for everything. There is a time when I joined Aero and there is a time I am leaving. I thank God for the contribution I made in Aero and I am happy I finished successfully,” he added.
Captain Sanusi started his flying carrier at Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria where he obtained Commercial Pilot Licence and a National Diploma in Aeronautical Sciences, according to information from his LinkedIn page.
He then went to the United States where he advanced his education and obtained his Air Transport Pilot Licence, Certified Flight and Ground Instructor’s license.
