New Zealand The NZX50 was in the green ahead of a busy earnings season, closing 0.3 per cent higher.
All sectors except healthcare (-1.2 per cent) were up on the close. Financials led the way, rising 3.5 per cent.
The best performers of Monday s session were Westpac Banking Corp (+5.3 per cent to $28.28), media services provider Sky Network Television (+3.5 per cent to $0.18) and Oceania Healthcare (+3.0 per cent to $1.39). The retirement village operator shared today that it will announce its results for the 10 months leading up to 31 March 2021 on 21 May 2021.

Transport and logistics favourite Mainfreight made an historic move, breaking through the $70 mark for the first time as the steady-as-you-go New Zealand sharemarket made a small gain. The S&P/NZX 50 Index increased 25.61 points or 0.2 per cent to 12,646.14, again trading in a narrow range of between 12,598.03 and 12,664.42. There were 87 gainers and 47 decliners across the whole market, with 45 million shares worth $189.35 million changing hands.
Mainfreight, by far the market s most expensive stock, rose 70c to $70.30 after hitting an intraday high of $70.57. The company reached $69.89 on December 30 and has roared back from $25.10 on the market s low of March 23 last year, when Covid-19 took hold. Starz Picks Up Death and Nightingales

Red Arrow Studios International has secured a deal with Starz in the U.S. for the epic period drama
Death and Nightingales.
Originally commissioned by BBC Two in the U.K.,
Death and Nightingales is based on Eugene McCabe’s modern Irish classic novel, adapted and directed by Allan Cubitt and produced by Jonathan Cavendish. Matthew Rhys, Jamie Dornan and Ann Skelly star.
Death and Nightingales will launch on Starz and the Starz app in the U.S. on May 16.
Red Arrow Studios International has also sold
Death and Nightingales to HBO Europe for CEE, the Nordics, Spain and Portugal; Sky Network Television for New Zealand; and Yes for Israel. Additionally, DirecTV picked up the series for all Latin American markets, excluding Brazil, and the series has also aired on BBC First in Belgium and The Netherlands, following a sale to BBC Studios.
