CASPER, Wyo. Wyoming communities may be sounding their local warning sirens as part of tornado drills scheduled for Wednesday, May 12. Some schools around the state will also be conducting safety drills for students on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton.
The NWS in Riverton will also be conducting a special test of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Radio weekly broadcast which will serve as a tornado drill. That will occur at around 9 am Wednesday.
“The drill is designed to allow emergency services organizations, schools and the public to test their severe weather plan and better educate the public involving how to respond to a tornado warning,” the NWS in Riverton says. “You should use this special NOAA Weather Radio test as your tornado drill and it is encouraged that you treat thi

Grey County is hosting a CANWARN Severe Weather Awareness and Preparedness training webinar.
The County says the webinar features Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng who will teach you about different types of severe weather, what to watch for in the sky, how to stay safe and more.
Grey County says Cheng has worked as a forecaster at the Storm Prediction Centre in Ontario and in Quebec, and also worked at the Weather Network for eight years as a briefing meteorologist.
On its website, the County says it had record attendance at past in-person events, and this year, a virtual event will allow for even more participation.

Renowned storm spotter Gerald Cheng will be leading a virtual session early next month on spotting, reporting and staying safe in severe weather.
Grey County, in partnership with several local municipalities, is holding the free CANWARN Severe Weather Awareness and Preparedness live event May 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.
