Under scrutiny over Channel 52, CTS predicts financial losses of NT$260m

Chinese Television System (CTS) is expecting financial losses of NT$260 million (US$9.14 million) this year, general manager Leon Chuang (莊豐嘉) told the Legislative Yuan’s Education and Culture Committee yesterday.
CTS aims to generate profits three years after it starts broadcasting its news channel on cable television, Chuang added.
The Ministry of Culture was scheduled to brief the committee on progress in drafting a public media act.

Annual Matsu pilgrimage starts

The annual Dajia Matsu Pilgrimage started last night at Jenn Lann Temple (鎮瀾宮) in Taichung’s Dajia District (大甲), for the first time livestreamed in 11 languages by Radio Taiwan International.
The nine-day pilgrimage the largest religious event in Taiwan passes through Changhua, Yunlin and Chiayi counties, before returning to the temple.
The procession in the past few years attracted hundreds of thousands of participants, with the exception of last year, when the event was scaled down due to concerns over COVID-19.

Taichung, April 9 (CNA) Jenn Lann Temple in Taichung s Dajia District began on Friday the annual procession of its main deity, the sea goddess Mazu a nine-day, 340-kilometer journey that covers more than 100 temples on the way to Chiayi and back.
Former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), Legislator Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), who is also chairman of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT), and Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) were there to carry the palanquin at the start of the procession shortly after 11 p.m.
Dajia Mazu s annual procession, which takes the sea goddess on a trip through Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin and Chiayi and back, is the largest religious procession in Taiwan and have always attracted politicians across party lines.
