CapRadio Wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Digital News Sacramento, CA - May 6, 2021: The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) today announced that Capital Public Radio (CapRadio) is the recipient of a Regional 2021 Edward R. Murrow Award in the Digital category for Large Market Radio. The Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television and digital news organizations around the world. CapRadio was honored in this year’s Digital category for its overall digital presence and coverage of the people, policies and events that shaped 2020. In a year that was filled with crises and major news events a pandemic, protests, wildfires, a contentious election CapRadio found innovative ways to serve its audiences on digital platforms, providing essential information while making connections between stories and topics to the individual impacts experienced in its communities.

KCUR Wins Five Regional Edward R Murrow Awards From 2021 Contest

/ KCUR took home five Edward R. Murrow Awards from the 2021 contest. The station was recognized for its reporting on climate change in Kansas City, investigations into surprise medical billing, and remembrances of lives lost during the pandemic. KCUR 89.3 has been awarded five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for its 2020 coverage on the Kansas City region, spanning from reporting on Black Lives Matter protests to a series remembering the people lost to COVID-19. The Murrow Awards, which are given out every year by the Radio Television Digital News Association, are among the most prestigious prizes in journalism. KCUR competes in the large market radio division of Region 5, which includes the states of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. The winners of the regional awards will go on to compete in the national competition.

Valley Public Radio Wins Three Regional Edward R Murrow Awards

RTDNA The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has awarded Valley Public Radio with three 2021 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Excellence in Writing, News Documentary, and  Feature Reporting.  It is the third year in a row that Valley Public Radio has received Regional Murrow Award honors. The awards are presented to small and large radio, television and digital outlets based on 14 geographic regions. The station entries, which were among small market radio stations in California, Hawaii and Nevada, now advance to the national Murrow Award competition.  Reporter Kerry Klein’s piece Eureka Moment In Valley Fever Case Paves Way For New Research, Treatment Options won in two categories: News Documentary and Excellence in Writing. These are the third and fourth Regional Murrow Awards Klein has won in the past three years.

Prior to coming to Billings in 1993 Stepanek held various roles in news and sports in Montana, California, and North Dakota. “I feel so fortunate to have had a long career at one TV station. I am one of the few News Directors who have been lucky to find a station and community they love,” Stepanek said. This moment gives me a chance to reminisce about the many talented journalists who have worked at Q2 through my time. News, weather, and sports reporters and anchors, technical and production staff have flourished in our station and in some cases moved on to roles in larger markets. I also thank the many department managers and staff who help make Q2 a great TV station. “

Murrow Awards Thursday. 13News received top honors in the Feature Reporting, Continuing Coverage and Excellence in Video categories. The feature reporting award recognizes one of the stories from Chuck s Big Adventure in Michigan. Chuck Lofton visited the world-renowned Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School to get a peek at how they were training a new batch of Santas amid a pandemic. Lofton worked with photojournalist Steve Rhodes and special projects producer Megan Simpson.
