Firefighters battle blaze at Oak Creek Apartments in east Vancouver

The Vancouver Fire Department responded early Thursday morning to a fire in one of the units at the Oak Creek Apartments in east Vancouver.
Fire crews were called around 3:15 a.m. to a 12-unit apartment building at 11412 N.E. 49th St. Engine 6 arrived within five minutes and contained the blaze to one apartment, according to an agency press release.
Crews evacuated the building, the department said, and the fire was deemed under control after 13 minutes.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation Tuesday after a fire damaged a house in the 9300 block of Northeast 11th Street in the French Glen section of central Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Fire Department, which cautioned people to never go back in to burning buildings.
The fire was reported around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, and the first crew arriving four minutes later found fire coming from a bedroom window at the rear of the single-story house. The crew initially fought the fire from outside but then crews moved inside as other personnel arrived and brought the blaze under control in about 10 minutes, according to a fire department media release.
