PM Modi to inaugurate much expected Kochi-Mangaluru gas pipeline on Jan 5

Mangaluru, Dec 29: The gas pipeline laid between Kochi and Mangaluru by the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) will be inaugurated online by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, on January 5.
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, stated that the PM had accepted the state government s invitation to inaugurate the pipeline. He told the media that the PM will dedicate the pipeline to the country through a virtual programme on January 5.

The work of laying this 444 km long pipeline began in the year 2009. As per the original plans, the line, which was estimated to cost Rs 2,915 crore, was to be completed by 2014. But because of the need to comply with safety measures, increase in the cost of land acquired etc, the project was delayed and the project cost soared to Rs 5,750 crore, sources stated.
