ABSTRACT
This article examines the key problems domestic gas market in
Kazakhstan faces right now and analyses, among other issues,
current and future gas market designs as well as third-party access
(TPA), unbundling, gas pricing and pipeline tariff setting
regulation. In addition, article identifies that liberalization can
help national gas market of Kazakhstan to become more openly
competitive and get prepared for imminent launch of the common gas
market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2025, however, it
seems that government of Kazakhstan still lacks clear understanding
on what shall be the new target model for domestic gas market and

Decarbonization of electricity grids has, to date, been largely
accomplished through the introduction of renewable generation
technologies (e.g. hydro, wind, solar and biomass). These traditional decarbonization technologies have succeeded
in reducing the amount of carbon-based generation required to
support grid electrification. However, given the intermittent
generation profile of these technologies, and in the absence of
large-scale grid connected storage (e.g. batteries, pumped storage
and compressed air storage), different technologies need to be
explored and pursued in order to further decarbonize our
electricity grids. Recently, Canadian governments have renewed

Drawing on international experience such as the Renewable Fuel
Standard, California s Low Carbon Fuel Standard and the EU
Renewable Energy Directive, the Brazilian Biofuels Policy
(
RenovaBio) was established in 2017 by Law No.
13,576/2017. It is designed to support Brazil s commitments
under the Paris Agreement, promote further expansion of the
production and use of biofuels in the national energy matrix and
improve the energy efficiency of biofuels.
In this Blog Post, we discuss key elements of RenovaBio, as well
as early results of the policy s implementation and other
It is
worth reiterating that gas flaring reduction potential was part of
the underlying opportunity for the (otherwise laudable)
project. PI&D obtained arbitral award against Nigeria,
sought to enforce same inclusive of the substantial interests and
Nigeria after some initial lethargy and missteps is now actively
challenging same, arguing that the entire project was a fraud. See
