The recent news report that the Okordia-Rumekpe 14-inch crude truck line operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) discharged some 213 barrels of crude oil into Ikarama community in Bayelsa, has again brought to our consciousness that though Nigeria prides itself as the giant of Africa and the most populous black nation in the world, yet, it is still riddled with third world challenges.
Essentially, while clarifying that an estimated 1.34 hectares of land was polluted by the leakage which followed a rupture on the pipeline, SPDC among other things confirmed that probe into the incident had been concluded, Noting that out of the 213 barrels of SPDC’s bonny light crude stream leak, some 110 barrels are recoverable from the ongoing recovery exercise at the site, leaving an estimated spilled volume at 109.12 barrels.
Warri – Chevron Nigeria Limited has said that it will continue to invest in it’s operations so as to improve the environment especially in it’s area of operations .
Esimaje Brikinn, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA disclosed this in Warri on behalf of Chevron Nigeria Ltd, during the 11th Annual General Meeting and Inuaguration of a New Set of Executive of the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF) at Effurun-Warri, Delta State.
Esimaje who was represented by Sam Daibo, Area Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs urged the communities to work together to checkmate the activities of oil thieves and vandals who are responsible for most of the pollution in the waters. Esimaje , explained that CNL supports global efforts to reduce flaring and carbon emissions.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has called on the federal government to resume work on the Gas Revolution Industrial Park project in Ogidigben, Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Okowa made the call on Friday shortly after inspecting the ongoing construction work at the multi-billion Naira Floating Market at Ogheye in Warri North Local Government Area.
Mr Okowa, accompanied by the deputy governor of the state, Kingsley Otuaro, said the Gas Revolution Industrial Park project had been delayed for too long. He urged the federal government to immediately look into the issues surrounding the delay.

The federal government said it is considering using Maritime University, Okerenkoko, in Warri South West Local Government Area to train beneficiaries of the presidential amnesty programme.
The Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Col. Dickson Diko (Rtd), stated this when he visited the institution as part of his tour to the region.
Col. Diko who was conducted round the university facilities by the Registrar, Mr. Nathanael Eseoghene, said the amnesty office would carry out a holistic inspection of the Nigerian Maritime University, which according to him, must be in alignment with the policy to train the beneficiaries in a suitable environment to enhance their natural talent.
