Comic artists and writers to share their talents at Comic Gong
Wollongong’s very own Comic Gong festival is returning on Saturday 15 May and we’re excited to have five comic artists and writers sharing their skills, experiences, and views on the day.
The talented group of comic artists and writers includes Matt Lin, Marcelo Baez, Karen Beilharz, Queenie Chan and Louie Joyce. Each comic professional will run their own workshop before coming together for a panel discussion where they will chat anime, manga, art and everything in between. The ever-popular, live character ‘draw-off’, where the artists pit their skills against each other to illustrate scenarios or characters suggested by the audience, will be a highlight of this session.

India: Bangalore sanitation workers protest for personal protective equipment
Sanitation workers in Bangalore, the Karnataka state capital, protested on Tuesday to demand personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, whilst at work. The sanitation workers, popularly known as pourakarmikas, are frontline employees, daily exposed to possible infection from COVID-19 and its variants.
Workers said they were forced to handle dangerous and hazardous medical waste with their bare hands and that many households did not separate their waste. The highly exploited, mainly female employees complained that they do not have access to toilets, sanitisers or canteens during working hours.

We’re on the last leg of the Smith Street pop-up cycleway works with the eastern end of Smith Street to transition to a one-way road in early April.
Now that we’ve completed cycleway works on the western end of Smith Street, we’re getting ready to roll out the next stage of works after the Easter long weekend.
From Wednesday 7 April, the area east of the roundabout along Smith Street will transition to a one-way street. This will allow us to create a separated cycleway on the southern side of Smith Street.
