Will climate change make SW Michigan cloudier? Southwest Michigan is not known for its brilliant blue winter skies. And Arthur’s wondering if we might see even less sun in the future if climate change warms up Lake Michigan, and ramps up the lake effect. “Are we going to have even more clouds and more cloudy days, more rain, more snow?” Loading… Arthur and I asked a couple of experts. We learned global warming is having an effect on the lake and that in turn could change the weather inland. How things change in the long term depends on how warm it gets.

Chris Curran proposes to Shawna Finos on the 50-yard line of Waldo Stadium. Joel Bissell When Shawna Finos, Western Michigan University class of 2014, was ushered out onto the 50-yard line of Waldo Stadium on Sept. 19, she had no idea that she would be leaving engaged to the man she first developed feelings for in that same stadium exactly ten years prior.  Finos was a freshman visiting her cousin at his dorm on campus when she was introduced to Chris Curran, WMU class of 2015. A sophomore at the time, Curran was known for being outgoing and mischievous. Finos, who was much more shy than he was, did not like him at first; especially when Curran almost ran her over outside Rood Hall without so much as a second glance. Nevertheless, the two developed feelings for each other at a football game Sept. 19, 2010.

Western Herald Year in Review: 2020 s biggest stories and best photos | Community & Culture

2020 is a year WMU students and the rest of the world will likely never forget.  Western Herald’s photo staff took thousands of pictures to tell the many stories encountered this year. In what has been a whirlwind of breaking news and historic moments, it is difficult to remember everything that happened through an entire year. Let’s review some of this year’s biggest stories and best photos that have been a part of Western Michigan University’s story this past year.  January  Well over 100 people packed a Kalamazoo Planning Committee meeting to discuss a proposal to remove a natural features protection overlay (NFP) and rezone land near Asylum Lake Preserve on Jan. 14, 2020. The meeting lasted nearly six hours.
