Camden Rotary Club to host Camden National Bank leader Greg Defour

Greg Dufour. (Photo courtesy Camden Rotary Club) Camden National Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Dufour will address the Camden Rotary Club, Tuesday, March 16, at noon. His talk, “Post-Pandemic Opportunities and Challenges,” will be the sixth in a series the club is hosting about local economic and workforce development. Dufour will tell how Camden National Bank responded to the pandemic and share his views on future economic conditions in the Midcoast. Topics will include the trend toward remote work, what will be needed for economic growth in the region during the coming decade, and the challenge of providing median-income workforce-accessible housing. 

MaineHealth updates COVID-19 vaccine registration system in support of 60-plus eligibility

MaineHealth, owner of Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital, will begin setting vaccination appointments for those who are newly eligible, given the state’s recent lowering of age requirements to 60 and older. Beginning March 3,  Maine residents aged 60 and above will be eligible for vaccination. Previously, Mainers aged 70 and older were eligible to receive the vaccine. MaineHealth operates a high-volume vaccination clinic in Scarborough and also has vaccination clinics in Belfast, Brunswick, Boothbay, Farmington, Norway, Rockport, Westbrook and Sanford. As of Friday, MaineHealth had given at least a first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to more than 40,000 Mainers aged 70 and older.

Alice Boody, obituary

Alice R. Merrifield Boody. LINCOLNVILLE Alice R. Merrifield Boody, 84, passed away peacefully and the way she wished, at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Born in China, Maine May 10, 1936, she was the daughter of Ellery A. and Marion F. Prescott. From an early age shew as raised by her aunt Eva L. Sidelinger and uncle Raymond O. Turner. Alice attended Union High School, graduating in 1954. Alice married Laurence “Red” Merrifield and together they raised five sons. Sadly he passed away in 1993. She later married Kenneth Boody in the summer of 2000. She was sadly widowed again when he passed in 2005. As a young woman, Alice worked in the local sardine factory and later went on to work at Tibbetts Industries in Camden for 30 years.

Ben McCanna/Staff Photographer A nor’easter that pummeled much of the East Coast Sunday and Monday lingered over Maine on Tuesday causing several accidents and dumping from 6 inches to more than a foot of snow and sleet. By late afternoon, the Maine Turnpike Authority had reported two traffic accidents involving tractor-trailers. Just after 4 p.m., the authority tweeted that a tractor-trailer had crashed in Saco at mile 36 northbound. A few minutes later, the authority tweeted that another tractor-trailer had jackknifed at mile 16 northbound in Wells. Both blocked traffic and caused delays.
