In recent months, those who were previously eligible or were volunteering to help eligible seniors struggling to navigate the online COVID vaccine system have learned how to navigate sites, when certain providers drop appointments and tips for acting quickly when you see an open appointment.
Some of those volunteers have kindly shared their tips and tricks with us. Here s what you should know as you begin your search for vaccine appointments:
First, don t make this mistake
If you are eligible and want to get the vaccine as soon as possible, do not wait for the state to email you with a link to make your appointment, advises Stephanie Hoyt of the New Jersey Covid Vaccine Volunteers. Instead, you ll need to proactively search on your own. (Read on for tips on how to do that).

Nearly 2 million people in New Jersey have been fully vaccinated with more on track to get the shot soon, as Gov. Phil Murphy announced earlier this week that all New Jersey residents ages 16 and older will be eligible for the vaccine beginning April 19.
The latest eligibility expansion prefigured President Joe Biden’s announcement that all adults must be eligible for the vaccination in all states by April 19, almost two full weeks earlier than his original deadline of May 1.
