Boone Health holds first Columbia vaccination event for kids 12 and up

Kids 12 years old and older are now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine after the CDC authorized the use on Wednesday. Boone Health was the first in Columbia to host a vaccination clinic for this age group Thursday. Over 400 doses were given at the event. MU Health Care offering vaccines to teens

COLUMBIA - MU Health Care is now offering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine appointments to all Missourians 12 and older. MU Health Care says there will be two after school vaccination events specifically for adolescents on Monday, May 17 and Thursday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. There is also an event on Friday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon that is now open to anyone older than 12. All three events will take place at the Walsworth Family Columns Club at Faurot Field. Appointments are available on the MU Health Care website.  Parental consent is required for anyone under 18. “By choosing to get your child vaccinated, you are protecting not only your child and your family but your community as well,” MU Health Care vaccine co-chair and family medicine physician Dr. Laura Morris said in a news release. “This vaccine now available to children ages 12-15 has gone through all of the same steps and requirements as every other vaccine, meeting all safety standards.”

According to the Missouri vaccine dashboard, an estimated 43.3% of Boone County s 180,463 residents have received at least one vaccine dose. The county leads the state with this percentage, and is third for it s completed vaccination rate (29.2%). 129,228 total doses administered of a vaccine 78,156 COVID-19 vaccine regimen activated 56,227 COVID-19 vaccine regimen completed 6,885 doses have been administered in the past 7 days

5:20 p.m.: CPS positivity rate rises to 12.5 The Columbia Public Schools 14-day case rate per 10,000 people is at 12.5. The updated CPS student tracker shows 155 students in the district currently in quarantine and 10 active student cases. The district has seen 3,486 quarantined student cases and 653 positive student cases since June 2020. The updated CPS staff tracker also shows 13 staff members currently in quarantine and 2 active staff cases. 1 staff members are out due to EFMLA laws. The tracker also shows 61.3% of CPS staff members have been vaccinated.   5:00 p.m.: Over a quarter of Boone Countians have completed vaccination The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health & Human Services reported 20 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 108.
