United Way of Lamar County 5K raises $4 3K

RENO — Participants at the fourth annual Live United 5K Run/Walk faced an uphill trek followed by a brisk headwind Saturday morning as they made their way around the Pine Ridge Golf Course in Reno. “We had a great showing today with over 50 runners and walkers,” said Jenny Wilson, director of the United Way of Lamar County. “I would say the majority are walking, so never be afraid to come out.” Wilson estimates more than $4,300 will be added to United Way coffers as a result of the roughly 3.1-mile event. Paris High School junior Adam Hartman took the first place medal in men’s competition with a time of 20.45 followed by Prairiland High School senior Edwardo Banda with a time of 21.19 for second place and Osvaldo (Chato) Viveros with 22.36 for third.

The United Way celebrates annual campaign

May 7, 2021 The United Way Blackhawk Region’s annual campaign reaches 93% of its $2.4 million goal. President and CEO Mary Fanning-Penny attributes much of this to the impact of the pandemic on workplace campaigns. Fanning-Penny says there’s plenty to celebrate, although the annual spring gathering was cancelled due to COVID-19. Never-the-less more than 50 companies and individuals are being honored for their commitment. They include Bob Compton of Lycon Incorporated as the Geraldine Hedberg Volunteer of the year Award. The Excellence in Advocacy Award goes to the Sew Connected Mask Warriors for sewing 4500 masks to help slow the spread of COVID. And Alliant Energy is honored with the Live United Award.

United Way serves community needs during pandemic

AUBURN — When Tyler Cleverly took over as executive director of the United Way of DeKalb County one year ago, he had one goal in mind — to do everything in the agency’s ability to take care of the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. “2020 truly showed how DeKalb County came together to live out our motto to Live United,” he said Monday. “United Way of DeKalb County could not serve our county if it were not for volunteers and donors like you,” he added. Even though events had to make a shift, the United Way’s impact remained the same, he said.
