Several Awarded at Meeting

New Martinsville City Council held a regularly scheduled meeting March 1, 2021 at the City Municipal Building. Council member Joel Potts delivered the invocation and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Sandy Hunt called the meeting to order with all members present.
The first item addressed with a unanimous approval vote by council was the February 2021 meeting minutes.
The regular City invoices and financial report were approved by council unanimously.
Mayor Hunt proclaimed March 2021 as National Social Work Month because “Social Workers are Essential”. For decades, the Social Work Profession has been dedicated to improving well-being and enhancing the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable among us.

TAMPA, Fla. - Within a matter of moments, the life of a Tampa police officer – a 16-year veteran of the force and U.S. Marine Corps veteran – was cut short in a wrong-way crash, and investigators believe he purposely veered into the oncoming vehicle to save others.
Chief Brian Dugan identified the officer as 45-year-old Jesse Madsen, describing him as a highly-decorated officer who was a seven-time recipient of the Tampa Police Department s Life-Saving Award.

A big thank you to several Chico police officers and residents at the department’s annual Lifesaving Awards took place Tuesday morning.
Three police officers and two citizens from Chico were recognized during a small ceremony, each one receiving an award for their efforts in helping save a person s life.
Each person had a unique story, but one thing they all have in common is being a hero.
