MONTREAL – The federal government announced it was mobilizing its own resources and co-ordinating with lesser-hit provinces to send health-care workers and other support to help Ontario as it battles record-breaking COVID-19 numbers.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc told a news conference that the federal government will co-ordinate and cover all the cost of relocating health-care workers who are sent to help from other provinces, including by using military aircraft.
The Elliot Lake Family Health Team is adding some new categories to administering vaccinations this week.
Team spokesperson Dr. Cathy Groh (GROW) says some new categories have been added to people receiving their COVID-19 vaccine at the Collins Hall clinic.
She says people aged 70 and over are now getting their vaccinations and Algoma Public Health has told her people with high-risk medical conditions can expect to be vaccinated in early May.
Dr. Groh adds Shoppers Drug Mart, the only pharmacy between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie offering the vaccine, can vaccinate anyone 55 and over.
Eligible people can call 705-461-8882 to book an appointment.

The federal government is now requesting assistance from other provinces in their battle against the COVID-19 virus.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic Leblanc says the situation in Ontario is concerning to all Canadians.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Leblanc have spoken with several Premiers in recent days, “In the last 48 hours, the Prime Minister has spokes with Premier Furey of Newfoundland and Labrador, Premier King of Prince Edward Island and Premier Rankin of Nova Scotia. They are all working hard to mobilize what additional healthcare staff might be possible to help the province of Ontario. I have also spoken to Premier Higgs of New Brunswick, Premier Silver of Yukon and Premier Cochrane of the Northwest Territories. They are also looking at what might be possible to send to Ontario as well.”
