Millions skipped church during pandemic Will they return? | News, Sports, Jobs

National News Jun 30, 2021 WALDOBORO, Maine (AP) With millions of people having stayed home from places of worship during the coronavirus pandemic, struggling congregations have one key question: How many of them will return? As the pandemic recedes in the United States and in-person services resume, worries of a deepening slide in attendance are universal. Some houses of worship won’t make it. Smaller organizations with older congregations that struggled to adapt during the pandemic are in the greatest danger of a downward spiral from which they can’t recover, said the Rev. Gloria E. White-Hammond, lecturer at the Harvard Divinity School and co-pastor of a church in Boston.

The Church Needs a New Sex Talk

June 1, 2021 When Sheila Gregoire started reading a popular Christian marriage book, she was shocked at the message she found. The book’s author claimed that men wanted, needed sex consistently in their marriages and that desire needed to be satisfied, and it is a wife’s role to fulfill that desire. Women, as it turns out, only have non-sexual desires they need satisfied from their husbands. Essentially, men were highly sexual beings. Women were not. “There was nothing about a woman’s pleasure, nothing,” said Gregoire. “There was nothing about consent. Nothing about how it’s important for her to feel safe. There was nothing about her experience whatsoever. It was just, he has the right to use your body, and you can’t say no.”
