Getting closer to normal one year after the start of the pandemic

SWPA Area Agency on Aging to provide free trips for people going to COVID-19 clinics

Seniors who need a ride to COVID-19 vaccination appointments in Greene and Washington counties can now take advantage of a no-cost option. Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging has partnered with county commissioners, along with other agencies, to offer free rides to those 60 and older who need transportation to and from vaccine appointments. Greene County Transportation Services is offering free rides to seniors in that county; and in Washington County, the Area Agency on Aging and Washington County commissioners have teamed with Freedom Transit to offer rides for seniors. The Area Agency on Aging, which is covering the costs of the bus rides, said transportation should not be a barrier for people who need to get vaccinated during the pandemic.

Washington Health System launches vaccination clinic in Peters Township

Washington Health System launched its vaccination clinic Monday at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center. “They’re using one of the basketball courts, half the gym,” township manager Paul Lauer reported at that night’s meeting of Peters council. “That clinic is going to run six days a week, 10 hours a day. Today, they did just shy of 250 vaccines.” The health system’s intent at this point, he said, is to vaccinate 300 people a day at the site. “Their hope is to be able to ramp that up, and having stopped over there today,” Lauer said about his visit to the center, “they certainly have the capacity to do far more vaccinations there than what they did today.”
