MARIETTA Washington County residents had the opportunity to safely recycle unwanted items during a recycling drop-off event as part of the Marietta Earth Day Celebration on Saturday. Calling it the “Hard to Recycle Materials Event,” residents were allowed to donate items that are not normally allowed to be recycled due to unsafe chemicals in the materials or for those just wanting their items to go to the right place, according to Kathy Ortt, Marietta Earth Day Celebration committee member.

Career Center names students of the month | News, Sports, Jobs

Scott Offenberger The Washington County Career Center honors its March Students of the Month, Caeley Mincks and Joseph “Scott” Offenberger. Caeley Mincks is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program, and she is the daughter of Rodney Mincks and Chasity Hayes of Lowell. At the Career Center, Mincks is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. She has received awards for Principal’s List and is an Energy Bus Driver member for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. In her technical program, Mincks has earned both high school and college dual credits for Introduction to Nutrition and Medical Terminology I & II. In academics, she has earned dual credits for American National Government, College Algebra, English Composition, and is currently enrolled in an online course for General Psychology through Washington State Community College.
