A two-line water tower motto that received the blessing of the Wapello City Council during its May 6 meeting will remain as the council’s preferred choice, the council agreed during its regular meeting on Thursday.

Washington Chamber Seeking to Save Former Captain s Table Building | KCII Radio

The Washington Chamber of Commerce seeks to inform the community of its continued interest in saving an unoccupied building located south of downtown. For over a year the chamber has been raising money to purchase and renovate the former Captain’s Table restaurant building at 321 South Iowa Avenue. They wish to use the property as an information hub for the services provided by the chamber and Main Street Washington. The project is estimated to cost between $1.5 and 2 million, with $740,000 committed so far and the chamber applying for a $750,000 Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant. Chamber Director Michelle Redlinger says this grant will determine whether the project will go forward.

Washington City Council Approaches Next Steps for Pickleball Court

Next steps on a pickleball and tennis court resurfacing project were recently discussed by the Washington City Council. The city recently received a $5,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for the project, which the council had a couple votes on whether to approve submitting a grant application. City Administrator Brent Hinson mentioned the grant during his department report, and he asked if an action item on the project could be put on the June 1st meeting agenda. Hinson says the expected city investment is about $20,000 to renovate the existing tennis courts near Case Field into dual purpose courts for pickleball. A community group spearheading the project received a bid of $57,975 from LL Pelling, Co. for this work, which they have received various contributions to fund, including $10,000 commitments from the Washington, Iowa Betterment Foundation and the Brinton Trust.
