As Memorial Day approaches, Washington residents should be aware of closures happening in observance of the federal holiday.
Washington County offices, Washington City Hall, and the Washington Public Library will all be closed on Monday. Washington residents are advised that garbage pickup will be delayed by one day all next week. Washington County Mini Bus will not be operating, and WCDC Can Redemption and Shredding Center and the Washington County Extension and Outreach office will both be closed. Post offices will be closed and most banking institutions as well.

The Washington Chamber of Commerce is getting back into hosting its Alive After Five events this spring and summer with an open house at one of their member businesses Tuesday.
Alive After Five is a community networking event hosted exclusively by Washington Chamber members which typically highlight new business ventures, remodeling, relocations, and more. Chamber Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says this month’s event will be at KCTC in downtown Washington, “They’re kind of doing a Cinco de Mayo theme and offering a lot of giveaways and prizes and information about their service. So I think that’ll be a really fun one to go to and bring the whole family.”

Youths will be given the opportunity to learn to create digital animation through classes at the Washington County Extension.
The weekly virtual sessions begin Thursday and the extension will have meeting space, iPads and internet service available for attendees, said Bruce Zimmer, extension educator, 4-H youth development, OSU Extension, Washington County.
The sessions will be offered in-person at the extension office, 202 Davis Ave., Marietta, from 7-8 p.m. for six consecutive Thursdays.
