Former cop is charged ELLSWORTH A former Calais police officer who resigned from the force Jan. 30 was charged Friday after allegedly furnishing fentanyl and hydrocodone on the grounds of Narraguagus Junior/Senior High School in Harrington, according to a copy of the charging document provided by the Office of the Maine Attorney General. Jeffrey Bishop, 53, of Cherryfield was arrested on four counts of aggravated drug furnishing and one count of unlawful drug trafficking by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, for whom Bishop once worked, and agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Bishop resigned from the Calais Police Department effective Jan. 30, according to Calais City Manager Michael Ellis.

Police: Catalytic converter thefts on rise | News, Sports, Jobs

mnewbanks@mariettatimes.com The arrest of a Vincent man last week for receiving stolen catalytic converters isn’t the first report of people stealing these car parts. Recent reports have shown thefts in areas including Adams Township, Barlow, New Matamoras and Marietta. Car and Driver noted in December that police departments have been reporting a general swell of catalytic converter thefts which require but a few minutes and a pipe cutter that typically hit repair shops and businesses with non garaged fleets. The converters are part of the car’s exhaust system and make harmful compounds, such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen gas, less harmful. They also reduce overall exhaust emissions.

Deputies began life-saving measures until EMS arrived minutes later and rushed the victim to a local hospital

Washington Man Arrested for Domestic Abuse, Assault on Peace Officer

A Washington man was arrested Sunday afternoon after an alleged assault. According to the Washington County Communications Center, at about 2:29 p.m. dispatch received a call from someone in the 300 block of West 18th Street in Washington for a suspect who was intoxicated and trying to assault them. The Washington Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded and the Washington County Ambulance Service transported one person to the Washington County Hospital. Thirty-four year-old Ian Lee Knotts was arrested for interference with official acts causing serious injury, a class D felony; domestic abuse – impeding airflow, and assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury, both aggravated misdemeanors.
