Sheriff s Office Holds Christmas Event for 34 Families
The Washington County Sheriff s Office held its annual Christmas event on Thursday evening. Sheriff Scott Owen said the WCSO was able to serve 34 families this Christmas. He said 104 kids received gifts that may not have gotten a gift otherwise. In a year where donations were greatly needed, Sheriff Owen said the community stepped up in a big way like they do every year. However, this year was special because individuals, groups, corporations, and more went above and beyond the WCSO s call for donations. Fundraisers such as the WCSO s Car Show, the Oldies N Goodies Red, White and Blue Chip Run, and countless donations of cash and food have made all of the WCSO s holiday programs a huge success. Sheriff Owen said they raised approximately $18,000 this year. He said the WCSO spent approximately $14,000 on the Christmas shopping spree for the kiddos last week.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. The Washington County Sheriff s Office (WCSO) is asking for the public s help in identifying the person responsible for a hit and run.
The black passenger car seen in the video below was traveling westbound on Arbor Acres Road and struck a pregnant female jogger just east of the Clear Water intersection at approximately 9:28 on Dec. 10
Two people were injured in a vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at about 3:08 p.m. Carol A. Ray of Washington was driving a red Toyota Prius westbound on 220th Street, or County Road G36, while Greg D. Plank of Wellman was driving a Chevy El Camino eastbound. Ray began turning south onto Riverside Road toward Washington when her vehicle was struck by Plank’s in the oncoming lane. Washington County Ambulance Service transported one person to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, and transported another to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Ray was cited for unsafe turning. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Washington police, fire, and rescue departments also assisted at the scene.
Duane Lee Storey, 38, was last seen in the Grand Junction area heading eastbound on Interstate 70 by a license plate reader in Clifton on the morning of Dec. 1, the Mesa County Sheriffâs Office reported.
Five days later, he was arrested by the Bay County Sheriffâs Office in Florida along with Cody Sean Brelsford, 41, of Placerville, near Telluride, after a vehicle pursuit and armed standoff.
They both are being investigated for a shooting that occurred in Nashville, Tennessee, on Dec. 3 in which 26-year-old ICU nurse Caitlyn Kaufman was killed.
When asked about the Florida shooting at a press conference earlier this week, Nashville Police said that no connections had been made between the two incidents.
