LONG VALLEY, NJ - A President s Day burglary was thwarted by alert neighbors and the Washington Township Police Department on Monday, according to authorities.
Washington Township Police Officers responded to 268 Schooley s Mountain Road after a burglar alarm tipped them off. While officers were en route, a neighbor called dispatch to tell them a suspicious person was seen walking around the property, police said.
Once on scene, officers determined a back kitchen window to the residence was forced open and damaged and soon located a man emerging from behind a snow bank across Schooley s Mountain Road near the home, police said.

Four police officers in Warren County were treated for smoke inhalation after entering a burning home Saturday in an attempt to rescue a woman trapped on the second floor, according to the police department.
Firefighters were able to get to the woman, who was taken by helicopter to a hospital, officials said.
The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. at 82 Youmans Ave. in Washington Borough, according to Sgt. Jerry Magyar of the Washington Township Police Department, which serves the borough.
“They (the officers) were met with heavy smoke and once the fire department got there, the four officers backed out of the house and then the borough fire department went in and extracted her,” Magyar said.

Franklin County Chairman Commissioner Dave Keller announced Thursday that all 911 service has been restored to the county.
PEMA officials report that service to the other dozen counties had been completely restored by 1 .
That means all 911 emergency non-emergency phone lines and all Franklin County Department of Emergency Services call center operations are functional. Franklin County has an outstanding network of emergency service providers who stepped in to receive direct calls from residents with emergencies. Fortunately, no serious issues were reported as a result of the outage, Keller said in a statement.
Service was out for approximately 20 hours.
