Over 50 cases of the more contagious, mutated coronavirus strain first detected in the U.K. have been identified across the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In an update Wednesday, the CDC listed 26 cases in California, two in Colorado, 22 in Florida, one in Georgia and an additional case in New York, for a total of 52 cases. On Thursday, Pennsylvania s Department of Health said that it had a confirmed case of the variant as well.

A 19-year-old Chicago man who reportedly had no underlying conditions died a week after he was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, his family said.
Arnold Herrera was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week. He was recovering at home but his condition reportedly worsened on New Year’s Eve. He was taken to a local hospital the following day.
But Herrera’s condition failed to improve, and he died on Sunday, his older brother, Pablo Portilla, told local news station WLS-TV.
