Good news for Puget Sound smoke forecast despite ongoing wildfires

While several wildfires continue to burn east of the Cascades, the Puget Sound region is expected to avoid much in the way of smoke or poor air quality.
That’s largely due to offshore winds, which have continued “to keep the smoke at bay and maintain air quality in the green zone.”
“That’s good news if you’re in Western Washington,” according to the latest update from the Washington Smoke Blog, run by a coalition of state, county, and federal agencies alongside Indian Tribes.

WENATCHEE A wildfire threatening more than 1,500 homes near Wenatchee grew to 17 square miles by Thursday afternoon and was about 10 percent contained, the Washington Department of Natural Resources said.
About 200 firefighters are battling the Red Apple Fire near this north-central Washington city renowned for its apples. The fire was threatening homes, apple orchards and an electrical substation, but no structures have been lost, officials said.
“Our focus is on structure protection,” said Ryan Rodruck, a spokesman for DNR on the fire.
Chelan County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a home Wednesday believed to be connected to the start of the wildfire. No details were released and the cause remains under investigation.
