Doubling Michigan s vaccine supply could prevent 1,200 deaths - but Biden administration is not sending the state surge shipments
A University of California, Berkeley model estimates how many hospital admissions and deaths could be avoided with more vaccines and restrictions
If vaccine shipments to Michigan were doubled, 10,000 fewer people would be admitted to hospitals there and 1,200 fewer people would die
Coupling this with a pause on reopenings could cut hospital admissions by 23,000 and deaths by 2,500 between April 3 to July 1
Currently, Michigan is getting fewer doses per people in its population than states like South Dakota and Oklahoma which are not seeing case surges
Breakthrough coronavirus cases still being reported, some even dying despite being fully vaccinated

SPOKANE, Wash. The Spokane Arena mass vaccination site is sending leftover vaccine doses to Safeway, which are used at the stores’ pharmacies to vaccinate patients.
The Arena site, which is operated by the Washington State Department of Health, has recently launched a waiting lot that opens 45 minutes before the site’s closing time.
Leftover vaccine doses are given to people who show up there, but any doses not used go to Safeway, which has partnered with the DOH. Those doses may be transferred back to the pharmacy and administered to patients there.
DOH says those doses remain unopened and sealed until they are used for vaccine appointments.
