High school seniors protest Kent School District s plan for drive-thru graduations
The Class of 2021 from all four high schools joined together Wednesday, calling for a real, in-person graduation ceremony.
KENT, Wash. - High school seniors at one local district are protesting plans of a drive-thru graduation ceremony. Dozens of students and parents rallied outside of Kent School District headquarters, Wednesday. What do we want guys? A graduation! When do we want it? Now! chanted the crowd.

With 60% of Washingtonians 16 and older now having had at least one dose of the COVID vaccine and about half of the state’s adults being fully-vaccinated, can we start envisioning a COVID-free future?
That depends.
While the goal is to get 70% of those 16 and up vaccinated, state Secretary of Health Dr. Umair Shah says he doesn’t know what the magic number will be for herd immunity.
“We do not know what a percentage will truly be that’s going to allow us to once and for all get through this pandemic and push COVID completely into the ground, and be done with it, and put our victory flag up and say, ‘We beat this virus, ” Shah said during the Washington State Department of Health’s weekly briefing on Wednesday.

Last week, Washington became the latest state to address environmental justice (EJ) through legislation by adopting the
Climate Commitment Act into law. The HEAL Act, which is the more comprehensive of the two passed laws, was based on
recommendations of a state-funded environmental task force issued in fall of 2020 and seeks to remedy the effects of past disparate treatment of vulnerable communities. The Climate Commitment Act is a more targeted law that establishes a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions cap-and-invest program with the goal of reducing GHG and criteria pollutants in overburdened communities highly impacted by air pollution. Although the laws become effective on July 25, their major EJ-related requirements take effect at later dates.
