Author: KING 5 Staff Updated: 9:52 PM PDT July 20, 2021 SEATTLE A homeless encampment deemed a safety risk will be removed following more debris and rock throwing that damaged vehicles traveling along I-90 in Seattle.  The debris and rock throwing in proximity to specific encampments off of I-90 and I-15 is a public safety threat that we take very seriously and must be addressed immediately, a statement from the Washington State Department of Transportation reads.

Homeless camps along I-90 to be cleared after 3 more vehicles hit by debris (Washington State Patrol, Twitter) A pair of homeless encampments along I-90 near Rainier Avenue will be removed this Thursday, in the wake of the latest incident where rocks and debris have been thrown onto Seattle freeways. There have been over 180 instances where vehicles driving along I-5 and I-90 in Seattle have been hit by debris since April, primarily near the Mount Baker Tunnel and Rainier Avenue exits. That includes an incident on Tuesday afternoon, where three more vehicles were hit by rocks while driving eastbound on I-90 near Rainier.
