This is not the news people in West Seattle want to hear, but another route in and out of the community is now facing lane closures. This time it’s the First Avenue South Bridge.
The southbound lanes of the First Avenue South Bridge, or Highway 99, will face lane closures over the next few weeks. The closures begin in a week. Workers need to replace the bearing pads on the bridge.
“Last fall, when we were inspecting the SR 99/Duwamish River Bridge, we found that some pads that girders rest on were worn out and needed to be replaced,” said Tom Pearce with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
