Mix And Match COVID-19 Vaccines Generate Robust Immune Response: Study
KEY POINTS
Mixing and matching the two COVID-19 vaccines induced higher antibody levels in recipients
The immunity provided by mRNA vaccines lasts for years, says a study
A new study suggests that mixing and matching Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccines could generate a “robust” immune response in recipients.
Researchers from Oxford University ran the Com-COV study designed to determine the effectiveness of different vaccine combinations for the “prime” shot and the “booster.” The study showed that alternating the doses of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca shots boosted the immunity of recipients.

Synopsis
Most people immunized with the mRNA vaccines may not need boosters, one study found, so long as the virus and its variants do not evolve much beyond their current forms which is not guaranteed. Mix-and-match vaccination shows promise, a second study found, and booster shots of one widely used vaccine, if they are required, greatly enhance immunity, according to a third report.

Three scientific studies released Monday offered fresh evidence that widely used vaccines will continue to protect people against the coronavirus for long periods, possibly for years, and can be adapted to fortify the immune system still further if needed.

Study finds sign of long-lasting protection from COVID-19 vaccines
The COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna produce a persistent immune response and give a sign of long-lasting protection, a new study finds.
Takeaway: The study is a positive development in the discussion around whether booster shots of the vaccines will be needed and when, though there has not been a definitive answer to that question yet.
