WASHINGTON, DC Organizers of a service that gets party-goers home safely would prefer that residents of the Washington, D.C., region stay home this New Year s Eve because of the coronavirus pandemic. But, for those who must go out to celebrate the end of 2020, SoberRide will be there.
The Washington Regional Alcohol Program will offer free rides to residents of Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia.
The SoberRide offer opens at 10 p.m. Thursday and expires at 2 a.m. Friday. All users have to do is download the Lyft mobile application and enter a promo code. WRAP will post the code on this website Thursday at 9 p.m.

ROCKVILLE, MD New Year s Eve is a time of celebration. And for many people, those festivities include alcohol. If you plan on having some, don t get behind the wheel. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, taxi, or ride-sharing service to get you home.
The nonprofit organization Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) will again partner with Lyft, the popular ride-sharing company, to provide a SoberRide service to the D.C. metro area during the holiday season.
Arlington County Police Officer Anthony Gatto was among 18 law-enforcement personnel from across the region who were cited Dec. 11 with the areaâs 23rd annual âLaw Enforcement Awards of Excellence for Impaired Driving Prevention.â
Owing to current public-health conditions, awards were bestowed âvirtuallyâ by the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, known as WRAP.
âThis yearâs awardees represent the front lines in greater Washingtonâs continuing fight against drunk driving,â said WRAP president Kurt Erickson. âTheir collective effort to annually arrest and remove nearly 14,000 drunk drivers from Washington-area roadways has undoubtedly saved lives.â
