The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Bellingham Police Department conducted emphasis patrols at the intersections of Northwest Ave & Bakerview and Meridian & Birchwood on April 9. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission reports they wrote 50 citations for cell phone violations and 2 for seatbelt violations. They gave out 20 warnings and officers observed 23 cell phone violators they couldn’t ticket because they were busy with other drivers Featured Content

Washington code forbids several behaviors, among them “watching video on a personal electronic device.” Saldaña, vice chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, appeared on TVW’s livestream behind the wheel, with a virtual Capitol as background. She fielded a question about clean fuels.
