The shooter who fatally shot two men at a parking lot last month is believed to have acted in self-defense, Reno police said in a press statement Tuesday evening.
RPD came to this conclusion after detectives conducted interviews and reviewed surveillance video footage of the surrounding area, they said.
At this time, no arrests will be made in this case, according to the press release.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the Mixers Bar, located at 2900 Clear Acre Lane just before midnight on April 28.
On the following Friday, officials released the identities of two men who were killed in the shooting.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner s office identified the pedestrian as Stephen Rice, 50, of Reno.
Principal Amy Marable sent a notice Tuesday to McQueen families.
Rice, a science teacher, was a central part of our McQueen Family and will be deeply missed by all of us. Our thoughts are with the Rice family, Marable wrote.
Marable said counselors, a crisis support team and online resources were available for students.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Rice was in the eastbound right travel lane of I-80 around 7 a.m. The driver of an eastbound Volvo semi-tractor-trailer towing doubles swerved to avoid him but the front of the truck struck Rice, according to the NHP. Rice was declared dead at the scene.
