Federal Labor silent as Andrews government lines up job cuts

Victorian public service leaders are bracing for significant staff cuts after the state government announced it was looking for $3.6 billion in bureaucratic savings over the next four years, including an estimated $350 million reduction in salary funding for public servants.
Federal Labor and Australian Council of Trade Unions figures refused to condemn the expected cuts to public sector jobs and salary increases despite both bodies previously attacking the Morrison government over stagnant wages growth.
Opposition leader Anthony Albanese made wages growth a key plank of his post-budget pitch.

The Victorian budget will include $2.7 billion in new property taxes, including a new “premium” stamp duty rate for property transactions over $2 million, the state treasurer said.

The “socialist state of Victoria” has opted for increased taxes for high-income earners as it prepares to hand down the budget which will lay out the state’s pathway out of the pandemic says Sky News host Rowan Dean.
