KARACHI: In comparison to last year, Karachi witnessed better Eidul Fitr sales this year, but traders still lack optimism about the situation. All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Chairman Atiq Mir thinks Eid business in the city has hardly crossed the Rs30 billion mark. Last year it was barely Rs10 billion.
According to the city’s electronic market association, their business was 75 per cent less this Ramazan. The cloth merchant association believes that there was no drastic difference in this year’s Eid sales in comparison to last year.
HOMES could be built on the former Debenhams store in the Royals Shopping Centre as a new owner is set to take over the site. The centre is being sold by Savills and the firm’s bosses say the store, which closed on Friday, would make a perfect spot for a restaurant and new flats with sea views. Business bosses have given a mixed reaction to the potential of homes replacing the former department store. Toby Ogilvie Smals, 43, director in the investment team at Savills, said: “The sale is quite close and the buyer is a shopping centre operator who is looking to invest and add value to the centre.
Listed below are the latest findings of council inspectors, as they are back in Bradford. Almost 4,000 premises across Bradford are rated by the Food Standards Agency, based on the findings of local authority inspectors, who work all year round. The hygiene standards found at the time of inspection are then rated on a scale. Five is top of the scale, meaning the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law. Zero is at the bottom of the scale, meaning urgent improvement is necessary. It is only a bitesize edition this week:

A BRIGHT and vibrant future for Southend town centre would see visitors spilling onto a high street filled with quirky and different independent shops and homes. In a decade’s time, council bosses are expecting the high street to feature an array of smaller shops as well as restaurants with outside dining and hundreds of flats. While Christine Hindle, who started a petition in January to improve Southend High Street, envisages a Camden-style open mark and a Covent Garden-esque entertainment area. Council bosses are confident the purchase of the Victoria Shopping Centre will allow them to have much more influence, with a host of discussions taking place on the best possible short, medium and long term use for the site.
