Person critical after inner-city Auckland cycle crash

A person is fighting for their life after a crash between a cyclist and a vehicle in central Auckland this morning.
Police and emergency services were called to reports of an accident involving a person on a bike and vehicle on Franklin Rd, Freeman s Bay, shortly after 8am.
A person has been taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Of those injured in the crash on State Highway 1 between Whangarei and Hikurangi this afternoon one is critical, two are seriously injured and the other two suffered moderate injuries.
The road at Hikurangi is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Two people also remain in critical conditions after separate road incidents elsewhere today.
A pedestrian has life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in central Auckland early this morning.
Police say emergency services were called to Victoria St West at about 2am.
The person was taken to hospital by ambulance with critical injuries.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway.
A fireworks display will ring in the new year. Silo Park will be a family-focussed area, with musicians Che Fu, Frank Booker DJ, Soul9Yards, and White Chapel Jak playing from 3.15pm to midnight. There will also be face painting, tinsel monsters, and circus workshops. Festivities on Te Wero Island start at 5pm, with Boh Runga, Laughton Kora & Mal Lakatani Duo, and the Jordan Luck Band headlining.

Boh Runga will play on the main stage on Te Wero Island, at the America’s Cup Village. There will be food and drinks on offer, but the village is an alcohol-free zone.

There are mere hours to go until the clock strikes midnight and New Zealand enters 2021, with a fireworks show set to mark the occasion in Auckland and those outside the city will be able to view too.
The official countdown to 2021 will begin on television on TVNZ1, TVNZ2 and Duke at 11.55pm.
