‘Nature trail for walkers and BMX cycling track for enthusiasts are being set up’
Renovation works for the NTR VMRDA Park, known as VUDA park, at Beach Road, are put on fast-track since the last couple of months and are nearing completion. Though the park comes under the supervision of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan region Development Authority (VMRDA), the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) officials are carrying out the development project as part of the Smart City initiative and aim to complete it by the next one month.
Why Hydrogen?
The idea of using hydrogen as an energy carrier is not new but this time there is hope that hydrogen will finally make a difference to energy supply and emission reduction. Part of the reason is that the hydrogen-electricity (“hydricity”) model is expected to be far cheaper than an electricity only model for decarbonisation of the energy sector. Apart from balancing intermittency of renewables, hydrogen can also facilitate decarbonisation of heavy industry (iron & steel, chemicals, cement, shipping and long-haul surface transport) which has proved to be a challenge for electricity from renewables. The progress made in reducing the cost of producing low carbon hydrogen is also another reason for the revival of interest in hydrogen.

‘It will help in detecting encroachments and layout plan violations’
Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy on Friday launched the ‘Change Detection Software’ pilot project at the VMRDA office, which was initiated by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to monitor land-use technology.
Mr. Vijaya Sai inquired about the functioning of the system. VMRDA Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao explained that the project was taken up in association with Environmental Systems Research Institute(ESRI). The lands belonging to VMRDA will be monitored by using DGPS survey data and Geographic Information System(GIS) software. The GIS-based applications can be used to detect encroachments and layout plan violations.

The NAD flyover is expected to be fully ready by January-end
The NAD flyover a showpiece project of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) that is being built at an estimated outlay of ₹150 crore and was scheduled to be completed by 2020 is all set for an early 2021 launch despite several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upper rotary work on the flyover is fully complete and the lower rotary and beautification of the flyover is expected to be completed by January 31.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA & UD) Botcha Satyanarayana inspected the NAD flyover works here on Monday. Expressing optimism on completion of the flyover works by January-end, the Minister instructed the officials to speed up lower rotary works, apart from carrying the beautification, electrical and related works.
