Gothong Southern Foundation gives back to frontliners during pandemic

While trying its best to roll with the punches brought by the pandemic, the company did not forget to give back and recognize those working in the front lines during this global health crisis. Since the lockdown, Gothong Southern Foundation (GSF) has launched a series of initiatives to help Cebu’s health workers in its own way. A sweet pairing In partnership with Fujinoya Cafe and Bar, a specialty coffee and pastry shop under the Gothong Southern portfolio, a total of 1,950 coffee and cookie sets were given to hospital staff from August to October 2020. Recipients of these sweet treats and delicious coffee include the University of Cebu Medical Center, Perpetual Succour Hospital, Chong Hua Hospital Fuente and Mandaue, Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital and Vicente Sotto Memorial

We have a program but no vaccination. Early this month, the government announced that 2,480 out of of 2,987 health workers at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center will get their first dose of the vaccines on Feb. 15. That was six days ago and still not a single shot has been injected into a single arm of any single health worker until now.

2 coronavirus mutations of concern detected in Cebu DOH 7 By JULIA MARI ORNEDO, GMA News Published February 18, 2021 4:12pm Updated February 18, 2021 8:59pm   The Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 on Thursday announced that the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) detected two coronavirus “mutations of concern” in samples from Cebu. DOH 7 spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said 37 of 50 samples sequenced by the PGC showed the mutations E484K and N501Y in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). She added that 29 out of the 50 samples had a co-occurrence of the two mutations. “These two mutations of concern are actually of global concern also. Hindi siya atin lang talaga. This is of global concern because, apparently, these are the mutations that are related to increased transmissibility,” she said in a briefing.

Pfizer vaccine to benefit frontliners in 34 hospitals

SunStar File February 15, 2021 DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Monday, February 15, 2021, said healthcare frontliners from 34 hospitals will receive the 117,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Of the 34 hospitals, 32 are in Metro Manila. The two others are the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City and the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City. As of Monday, Vergeire said most of these 34 hospitals have submitted their verified lists of priority recipients as well as quick substitution lists. “Meron lang pong mga hospital na yung kanilang quick substitution list ay hindi pa po kumpleto, kaya kino-kumpleto lang sa ngayon (Some hospitals are still completing their quick subsitution lists),” Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing.
