My New Orleans

We always advocate for a good date night at “Let Them Eat Cake.” After the year we’ve all had, it’s important to check in with your spouse-to-be and add a little fun into the mix. As the city begins to loosen coronavirus restrictions, more events are popping up around New Orleans.
An event that caught our eyes is a dinner offering at the Higgins Hotel as part of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE). On June 23, at 7 p.m., guests can get a five-course dinner featuring wines from Orin Swift and a menu crafted by the new Higgins Hotel & Conference Center executive chef Virgile Brandel at Café Normandie.

Make a (fun) night out of wedding planning

Checking items off a wedding to-do list isn’t always the most entertaining. It can seem like a second job or a chore without a little fun added into the mix. An event happening tonight at Little Miss Muffin on Harrison Avenue in Lakeview is offering couples a night to pick out various gifts for attendants or flower girls while having a day date – we suggest before a nice dinner out on the town – and checking out a new DJ to hit the scene.
OMG Music Group, a new passion project between Oliver Sobrino (DJ Oli) and Steven Scaffidi, will provide the entertainment and beats from 4-7 p.m. playing a lot of Motown favorites and other classics. The event includes wine tasting, gift shopping and, of course, music.

We talk a great deal about gifts on “Let Them Eat Cake” because they are a big part of a wedding – gifts for the couple, something for your bridesmaids, mothers of the couple the list goes on. As wedding season ramps up, The Knot – magazine and online wedding resource website – released its annual Registry Awards.
The Knot uses its guide to the most popular gifts among their couples and their editors to help ease the stress of couples navigating the registry process. While creating the annual registry awards, The Knot considers several things. First, the most registered products on The Knot Registry Store are analyzed. Of note, there was a significant increase in registries created in the first three months of 2021 than in the last few months of 2020.
Dream Honeymoons: Broadway-Approved Getaway in Hamilton’s Nevis
05/07/2021
The West Indies just
sounds exotic. You’ve heard that honeymooners love the vibe on Nevis, a verdant, timeless island, which feels like the Caribbean of bygone days. You’ve seen Hamilton on Broadway. You’d managed to get tickets via a friend. That’s the night you proposed to her. That’s what made you choose this island over all the others in the Caribbean. At the show, you first hear about Nevis. This is where Alexander Hamilton grew up. He saw the slave trade in real time. You love that his life so moved him that he never owned slaves. That fascinates you both. He’s your hero. Here, you will immerse yourself in a place unquestionably enlivened by its African heritage; a heritage that includes a painful past of colonization and slavery, but that is superseded by a culturally rich and intriguing indigenous history.
