The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) board is asking state health officials to allow athletes to compete outdoors without wearing masks this spring.
The recommendation by the league’s sports medicine advisory committee only would apply to actual competition. Athletes would be required to wear masks during breaks before and after races, and while sitting in the dugout or standing on the sidelines.

DOUGLAS After Michigan health officials announced the state would pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine following a federal recommendation, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the temporary loss of doses is disappointing, but safety was the most pressing matter among the vaccine rollout.
Whitmer was speaking to media following a tour of road construction on Interstate 196 in Douglas Tuesday morning. Earlier Tuesday, federal health officials recommended an immediate pause Tuesday on the use of Johnson & Johnson s coronavirus vaccine out of an abundance of caution following reports of six cases of rare and serious blood clots in women in the United States.
