Dhaka, Dec 14 (IANS) After 49 years of the Liberation War, the Bangladesh government has approved a primary list of 1,222 martyred intellectuals who made sacrifices for the nation in 1971, a Minister announced.
On Sunday, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huque said the list will be formally released this month.
Huque’s announcement came a day ahead of country observing the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day on Monday.
In separate messages on Sunday, President M. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , paying homage to the martyred intellectuals.
Huque said the list was approved at the first meeting of the committee formed to compile it.

Nat’l programmes taken to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day tomorrow

observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day tomorrow with due dignity.
On the day, the President and the Prime Minister will place wreaths at 7.05
am and 7.06 am respectively at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial.
Led by the Liberation War Affairs Minister, members of the martyrs’ family
and the heroic freedom fighters will place wreaths at the Intellectuals
Memorial at 7.22 am and Rayer Bazar Boddho Bhumi at 8:30 am.
From 8.30 am on the day, people of all walks of life will lay wreaths at
the Intellectual Memorial in accordance with the proper health rules.
The President and the Prime Minister will issue separate messages on the
