Bangabandhu killer Mosleh Uddin stripped of FF status 51 others get same treatment Staff Correspondent Staff Correspondent The government has cancelled the freedom fighter certificate of former army officer Risaldar Mosleh Uddin, a convicted killer of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a gazette notification on January 5 cancelling the certificate of Risaldar Moslem Uddin, a self-confessed killer of Bangabandhu in August 1975. Mosleh Uddin is also facing the death penalty for his involvement in the killing of four national leaders at Dhaka Central Jail in November 1975. The ministry issued the notification to cancel the gazette as per the recommendation of the 70th meeting of the Jatiya  Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka).

Cabinet Committee meeting on golden jubilee of independence held 481 DHAKA, Dec 3, 2020 (BSS) – The first meeting of Cabinet Committee was held today to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s independence in a colorful and befitting manner. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in the capital this afternoon with Liberation War Affairs Minister and committee chairman AKM Mozammel Haque in the chair, a ministry press release said. At a press briefing after the meeting, Mozammel Haque revealed the detailed plan of the golden jubilee celebration of the country’s independence. He said various programmes would be taken throughout the year with a view to spreading the spirit of the Liberation War among the new generation and the grassroots.

Litterateur Rabeya Khatun passes away

She was 86. Rabeya started her writing career crossing the barriers of patriarchal society and when women were almost confined to their homes. The novelist died at her Banani residence around 5:00pm after suffering a cardiac arrest, said her family. She is survived by two daughters and two sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death. In her career spanning almost six decades, Rabeya had shown her capacities in short stories, essays, religious history, and travelogues. And she became an inspiration for many budding writers, including females. Rabeya wrote over 50 novels and more than 400 short stories. She received Ekushey Padak in 1993 and Independence Day Award in 2017, the two most prestigious and highest civilian awards of the Bangladesh government, for her contributions to literature.

Immediately after her demise, people from all walks of life as well as different political parties and leaders expressed their shock and sent condolences. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at her death, said a press release issued here. A number of cabinet members also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the BMP President.
