The Rosalia man accused of starting the fires that torched several abandoned mobile homes has pleaded guilty.
65-year-old Tracy Porter pleaded guilty to felony 1st degree reckless burning Friday during his arraignment in Whitman County Superior Court. Porter lit several small fires late last month to burn overgrown grass in the old Porter Trailer Park in Rosalia. Winds fanned the flames spreading the fires to several abandoned trailers. Porter’s family owns the abandoned park.
Porter is set to be sentenced on Friday.
A Georgia man convicted of trying to extort nude photos from a Washington State University student is going to prison.
24-year-old Atlanta Metro area man Jordan Bowen previously pleaded guilty to 2nd degree extortion with sexual motivation in Whitman County Superior Court. Court Commissioner Doug Robinson sentenced Bowen on Friday to 15 months in prison, 3 years of probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender.
Bowen had no connection to the victim before obtaining nude images of her. He created 2 fake identities and contacted the woman through social media. Bowen threatened to send the images to her friends and family unless she sent him more nude photos.

The Pullman man accused of trying to kill his estranged girlfriend has died from an apparent suicide.
Around 5:30 on Saturday night 35-year-old Jose Chagollan Flores was found hanging from the upper bunk of his cell inside the Whitman County Jail in Colfax. Jailers, deputies, and paramedics tried to revive Chagollan Flores. He was taken to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office believes that Chagollan Flores used a bedsheet to hang himself after routine rounds by the jailers.
Chagollan Flores was waiting to stand trial for 1st degree attempted murder, 1st degree kidnapping, and 3 counts of 2nd degree assault in Whitman County Superior Court. He was arrested during the early morning hours of August 1st just North of Pullman. Witnesses said the victim ran to their vehicle for help. Chagollan Flores then rammed their car with his SUV. He then pulled his estranged girlfriend from the vehicle and stabbed her sever
