A rematch of a 2017 Pullman City Council race may be shaping up for this year.
The Executive Director of United Way of Whitman County Eric Fejeran has announced his candidacy for the seat held by Al Sorensen. Sorensen defeated Fejeran with 57% of the vote 4 years ago. Sorensen hasn’t announced yet if he is running for re-election this year.
Fejeran has lived in Pullman for 13 years. In his campaign announcement Fejeran says he believes Pullman needs to take a stronger leadership position in the county to resolve crises from housing cost and the pandemic. Fejeran believes local officials need legislative assistants and higher pay to handle these critical issues.
Not enough voter turnout has caused the Pullman area volunteer fire department’s levies from last month’s special election to fail.
Both Whitman County Fire District 12 measures received strong voter approval for passage but 650 ballots needed to be cast to validate the results. The voter turnout ended about 125 ballots short for validation.
The Whitman County Auditor’s Office tabulated the final vote by mail ballots and certified the April special election on Friday. District 12’s fire levy received 77% voter approval while the volunteer’s EMS levy received 75% approval.
