With thousands of colleges and universities in the United States, narrowing down the field can seem impossible for prospective students. The West Coast alone has a bevy of highly rated state schools and excellent private universities, ranging in student-body size from a few hundred to tens of thousands.

Stacker rounded up the top 50 schools on the West Coast, based on Niche s 2021 Best Colleges in America list (updated February 2021). These institutions in Oregon, Washington, and California are ranked based on rigorous analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education; categories examined include academics, admissions, financial costs, student life, and other factors.

Eastern Washington resident can get free online help with federal tax returns from WSU students in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
PULLMAN, Wash. – Qualifying residents in Eastern Washington can get free online help with federal tax returns through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA).
Washington State University moved its student-led VITA program online after the pandemic forced the closure of many in-person sites. Whitworth University’s VITA program in Spokane, which was also affected by in-person site closures, has joined forces to provide tax volunteers through WSU’s online site.
“We are so pleased to have this cooperation between WSU and Whitworth to help our neighbors in the region prepare their federal tax returns,” said Jeff Gramlich, WSU accounting professor and advisor of the WSU student-led VITA program.

SPOKANE, Wash. Students at Whitworth University have put together projects to benefit their campus and the community. It’s part of an annual fundraising campaign called “One Pine Day.”
For 1,890 minutes, in honor of the year the university was founded, a campaign is launched to promote the projects. Some of those include scholarships, a new volleyball net and much more.
“There are so many needs on campus and it’s hard to fulfill those needs,” said Phil Labrie, Assistant Director of the Military and Veterans Outreach. “We look for support for people that can come behind our students and support them with these projects.”
WSU students have the opportunity to participate in WSU Creative Jam+, a virtual ‘design-a-thon’ where groups come up with solutions that will serve the community in response to COVID-19.
