Citing the “rapid rise of COVID-19 cases” and evidence of ongoing community transmission, the region’s medical officer of health has ordered the closure of local schools starting Monday.
In a release issued Thursday afternoon, Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s medical officer of health, announced he is issuing an order under the provincial Health Protection and Promotion Act, requiring that all elementary and high school students revert to online/remote learning from home. The order will be in place for just next week, because students will then be starting their holiday break.

This action is being taken in an effort to keep our community safe and prevent further spread of COVID-19.”

Public health officials have ordered all schools in the Windsor-Essex region to close due to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases in the area.
Students will transition to online learning starting on Monday, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced Thursday.
Schools will be closed to in-class learning until next Friday, after which the winter break begins, it said.
